Adium is a free instant messaging application for Mac OS X, released under the GNU GPL and developed by the Adium team. With Adium, you can connect to any number of messaging accounts on any combination of supported messaging services and then chat with other people using those services.
Adium supports Facebook Chat, AIM (OSCAR), ICQ, Yahoo!, Yahoo! Japan, MSN, Jabber, Google Talk, Lotus Sametime, Bonjour, MySpace IM, Novell GroupWise, QQ, and Gadu-Gadu.
AOL Instant Messenger(AIM) allows you to send instant messages to other people who use AIM, ICQ, or SMS.
The new AIM logs and stores your conversation history (starting now) whenever you chat with other people using the new AIM.

Beginning with the earliest MUDs (Multi User Dungeons), on through today's MUSHes, MUXes, MOOs, MUCKs and all the other varied offspring of the original MUD, there have been text-based multiuser games around since the early days of the Internet. But to connect to these MU*s, you generally need a client slightly more advanced than plain old telnet!
Atlantis is a client specifically designed to aid in playing those type of games. It is designed from the ground up entirely in Cocoa, and integrates with system services - such as the Mac OS X spellchecker - as much as possible.

Eggdrop is the world's most popular Open Source IRC bot, designed for flexibility and ease of use, and is freely distributable under the GNU General Public License (GPL). To run one, download the source, uncompress it, untar it, edit the config files, and its up. Interacting with the bot is pretty straightforward. The bot will interact via message or on-channel.
ircII is an IRC and ICB client that runs under most UNIX platforms. It comes in source form and is completely free of any charges or fees. The ircII project is a group of people who maintain the source code, incorporating fixes and new features.
iroffer is a software program that acts as a fileserver for IRC. It is similar to a FTP server or WEB server, but users can download files using the DCC protocol of IRC instead of a web browser. Unlike similar programs, iroffer is not a script, it is a standalone executable written entirely in c from scratch with high transfer speed and efficiency in mind. iroffer has been found to transfer over 50MByte/sec over a gigabit ethernet connection.
Irssi is a terminal based IRC client for UNIX systems. It also supports SILC and ICB protocols via plugins.

Psi is an instant messaging application for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X that connects to the free, open Jabber IM network (also known as XMPP), including Google Talk.
Savitar is a software application designed to connect people using Macintosh computers to MUVE (Multi-user Virtual Environment) servers. These MUVE servers are found throughout the Internet. Savitar works as a "client" application which basically means it hooks your computer to one or more of these servers and allows you to interact with the people you find there.

Trebuchet Tk is a client program for connecting to TinyMUD style social MUD servers on the InterNet. This program is designed to be used with TinyMUD, TinyMUCK, TinyMUSH, MOO, and several other variants. It's probably not well designed for combat oriented MUDs like LPMUD and Diku, but it does support them.
