IconAudio Interface 1.1

Audio Interface is a control panel which uses Apple's PlainTalk technology to speak the contents of menus and dialog boxes. By moving the mouse over menu items or dialog box items, you can have the name of that item read to you. I wrote Audio Interface with the hope that at least one user may have an easier time using the Mac. Although it's not targeted at totally blind users, many users with bad eyesight hopefully won't have to squint up to the screen every time a dialog box appears or a menu is pulled down. Of course, it can also be used for a little fun!

icon Keyclick 1.2.3

Keyclick is a Mac OS X preference pane that provides subtle but important feedback for each keystroke the system recognizes. Years ago keyboards were made with premium key switches that provided a resounding click when a key snapped over. Today most keyboards are made using rubber domes which can provide a similar force displacement or tactile feel, but not the sound. Human factors work on video terminals in the 1980s showed that the perception of keyboard crispness is correlated with audio feedback. Keyclick provides that feedback while improving on the original.

Proloquo is a multi-purpose, multilingual speech solution for Mac OS X that provides: (1) a full-fledged communication system (AAC) for people who cannot speak; (2) improves accessibility of Mac OS X for people with visual impairments; (3) provides speech feedback in any application while typing for children and people with learning disabilities; (4) can serve as a talking word processor; (5) provides text to speech for people who prefer listening to reading; (6) can be used as a tool to learn the pronunciation of foreign languages; (7) provides an advanced, multilingual speech engine for our KeyStrokes® on-screen keyboard and our SwitchXS® switch access solution.
Proloquo includes High Quality and/or High Density Acapela voices for a language of choice. The languages currently include US English, UK English, German, Dutch, Flemish, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Brazilian Portuguese. Acapela voices for additional languages can be purchased as a language pack. In addition, to offer users even more choice, registered Proloquo users can contact AssistiveWare for a discount coupon to purchase Cepstral voices that work not only in Proloquo but system-wide. Finally, Proloquo of course works with all the built-in voices of Mac OS X.
Proloquo is different from Apple's excellent VoiceOver technology for Mac OS X Tiger in several ways. VoiceOver is a screen reader primarily intended for people who are blind. Proloquo, instead, is a multi-purpose speech solution that also includes certain features geared towards people with limited vision (such as the ability to speak what is below the cursor and to echo what the user types). Additionally, Proloquo works with high quality voices in multiple languages.
Proloquo can be used to create a complete personalized Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) system using simple drag and drop (or copy and paste) of phrases into lists organized by topic. Proloquo can also be combined with LayoutKitchen®. With LayoutKitchen users can design their own speech panels for Proloquo with colorable and resizable buttons containing text and/or images in a variety of formats.

SmartClick was also designed for those that can only click 1 button or switch.
The SmartClick palette (like an artist's palette) contains buttons for functions. The user simply select their function, and then dwells, or single clicks, over their target. The function turns itself off after use.

Icon SwitchXS 2.5

SwitchXS provides virtually complete access to Mac OS X and all standard Mac applications for people who can only use one or more switches. It offers full mouse and keyboard emulation by means of a so-called scanning mode. With each click on the switch the user selects an action, such as "move the cursor up" or "type B", from a "scanning" menu. SwitchXS is typically used by people who are, for example, quadriplegic due to an accident, or living with neuromotor diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) with very limited limb movement.
SwitchXS provides a number of predefined scanning panels that the user can choose to move the cursor, click, and type into all standard Mac applications. It also allows the user advanced control over features such as audio-cueing, speech-cueing, key repeat, scanning speed and cycling, mouse speed and movement, and SmartTransparency, which makes the scanning panel partially or fully transparent when no scan is taking place to enjoy optimum use of screen real-estate. SwitchXS works with any HID compliant USB gamepad, joystick and keyboard, and starting with Mac OS X 10.3 also with any HID compliant USB mouse or trackball. SwitchXS also works with USB switch interfaces emulating any of the above devices.
SwitchXS includes LayoutKitchen®, an editor that allows users to make their own scan panels. For word prediction, in languages using the Roman alphabet as well as many other languages, SwitchXS can be combined with KeyStrokes®.
